![]() Cecil WelchWhen the list is compiled of the great pop and jazz trumpet virtuosos of this generation, Cecil Welch must surely be included. This veteran of the concert stage has created a unique style of performance and an ambience with his audiences that guarantees success. As a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra during the tenure of Maestro Robert Shaw, Henry Mancini, the Academy Award winning film composer, heard Cecil perform and offered him a position as his principal trumpeter and soloist. This association allowed Cecil to perform with most of the major symphonies all across America, Canada and abroad, including the London Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and the Tokyo Philharmonic. During the 18 years with Henry Mancini, Cecil formed his own music production company, Cecil Welch Entertainment, Inc. In addition to music production, the company provides orchestral personnel for many of America's most talented performers, including Harry Connick, Natalie Cole, Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams, Olivia Newton-John, Josh Groban, and many others. Cecil continues to perform across the USA and in 2005 performed for President Jimmy Carter's 80th birthday celebration at the Carter Center in Atlanta. During 2004 Cecil and his wife Barbara cruised throughout Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea where Cecil performed as a guest soloist and entertainer for Celebrity Cruise Lines, visiting Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, and St. Petersburg, Russia along the way. He has also appeared as a guest performer on the Jeff Foxworthy comedy TV show "Blue Collar Comedy". As a recording artist, Cecil has produced four solo trumpet CDs, including a tribute to the music of Henry Mancini, "Too Little Time", and a salute to the big band trumpeters of the past, "Moonlight Blues". These recordings are all under his own recording label, Brass Menagerie Recording Company. Cecil is a member of The American Federation of Musicians, The Atlanta Rotary Club, and the Cherokee Country Club, and serves on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, a 90 piece orchestra encouraging the many talented young people of Atlanta in music arts and education. | |||||||||
